Sound and Recording Workshop

The class will convene as a group of 5 students; one day per week for 10 weeks. Our curriculum is based upon the textbook Sound and Recording Fundamentals, a nine chapter handbook on the art and science of Sound and Recording. Class will include both lecture and immediate hands-on instruction.

 ​

 

 

Applications are now being accepted for our next course, which will begin January 12th 2026 and be completed March 16th.         

 

 

The fee is $1000, and scholarships are available thanks to generous private donations provided through our non-profit partner Instruments 4 Africa (a longtime friend and client of The Compound Studio). Please reach out if you are in need of financial assistance.

1. Signal Path

We begin at the beginning; signal flow, gain staging, finding line the line level of the signal and keeping it throughout the signal path. Using the decibel measurement in acoustic, analog and digital environments. How, what, where and when to patch effects and other processors in our signal path.
